“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
What an unequal exchange! Something so worthless, for something so priceless! But it’s not unusual, God is always doing that. All through the Bible, God is saying, “If you’ll do this, I’ll do that; if you’ll do this, I’ll do that.” It’s about Grace. It’s about the Blood Covenant. It’s about relationship. “All things are possible with God,” (Mark 10:27), He wants our cooperation. He sent Jesus so that our relationship with Him might be restored.
When Jesus died on the cross, He didn’t just die on the cross. He didn’t just endure interrogation, humiliation, rejection by His friends, a flogging that may have left internal organs exposed, 3 hours of torture on the cross trying to keep from suffocating and then just die for our sins. That was the physical and emotional pain and suffering. Any man can die. Jesus did more than that. Jesus became Sin! At the crucifixion, God poured all the sin of the world (past, present, and future) into that
precious, bleeding, innocent Lamb of His, until Jesus was so saturated with it He became sin – and it killed Him!
AND OUR SIN DIED WITH HIM!
He did it because He loves us! He did it to restore relationship with us! When Christ was resurrected in victory, He was resurrected in Righteousness.
Now when we accept Jesus, when we’re in Christ, God pours that Righteousness into us until we’re saturated with it and we become the righteousness of God, and we live!
But it doesn’t end there! God continues to offer exchanges to us all through our Christians lives. When I came to understand this, I exchanged my addiction for His Presence!
What exchange do you need to make today?
