Acts 12 relates the story of when Peter was in prison and God miraculously rescued him by sending an angel to supernaturally break him out while the guards slept. When the angel accomplished his task, he left, so Peter went to Mary’s house.

“He went to the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered for prayer. 13 He knocked at the door in the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the door, she ran back inside and told everyone, “Peter is standing at the door!”
15 “You’re out of your mind!” they said. When she insisted, they decided, “It must be his angel” (Acts 12:12b-15).

So here is a group of faithful Christians praying for the rescue of Peter, and when Peter shows up at their door, they can’t believe it! Why not? Isn’t that what they were praying for?

This seemed to get my attention because I am constantly worried and praying about our future – fearful that we may not be able to afford our home or anything someday in the future. Will we lose everything and end up homeless? So I keep praying for God’s mercy and provision and strength.

The thing is, He answers my prayers every day – and that’s the only perspective I should have!

In other words, even as I continue to pray for our future, God has already answered our prayers in the here and now – I just have to “open the door” to see the truth of his love, mercy, provision, salvation. I just need to walk in gratitude and praise for today’s answered prayers and stop walking in fear of the future. TODAY I HAVE EVERYTHING I NEED!

It doesn’t mean I should stop praying, but I need to open the door and see that God is ever-faithful and I can trust Him. Each morning that I wake up and have everything I need, I should be at peace instead of being worried about the future. God’s got the plan and He’s got me! And that means I have life abundant today!

Sometimes you have to open the door of Truth to see the answer is standing right in front of you!
